The Minister of Economic Development and Trade met with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs to discuss financial and technical support for the implementation of the country's Sustainable Development Goals
On July 18, 2023, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin met with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Lee Junhua.
At the meeting, Zavqizoda spoke about the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development and its contribution to the implementation of the World Agenda 2030, the exchange of best practices, knowledge and innovation in this process, the results of the UN Conference on the Water Agenda, participation and presentation in the general discussions of the Ministerial session related to the preparations for the Summit of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2023, the provision of the second National Voluntary Review of the Republic of Tajikistan, the launch of the national platform for monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals and significant achievements of the country in ensuring sustainable economic and social development.
Zavqizoda Z. A. expressed full confidence in the further implementation of the World Agenda for Sustainable Development until 2030 and the internationally recognized initiatives of Tajikistan in matters of water and climate change, and in this regard, he noted the key role of increasing financial and technical support for UN institutions and other development partners to strengthen especially partnerships at all levels between governments, civil society and the private sector on the use of resources, experience and innovation.
UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Li Junhua praised the initiatives and significant achievements of the Republic of Tajikistan in promoting the Global Action Agenda for Water Resources and implementing most of the SDGs, providing the second National Review, and establishing best practices for involving stakeholders in this process, achieving high macroeconomic indicators, ensuring sustainable economic and social development and improving the welfare of the population.
At the same time, the UN Under-Secretary-General accepted Tajikistan's request for increased financial and technical support for UN implementation, especially following up on the outcomes and recommendations of the UN Conference on the Water Agenda for Action. It was noted that the issue of increasing financial and technical support to countries for the implementation of the 2030 World Agenda for Sustainable Development and revising the methods of multilateral cooperation in this process are among the main topics of the World SDG Summit, which will be held in September 2023 at the level of Heads of State and UN institutions .
