The Minister of Economic Development and Trade and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Tajikistan discussed priority areas of bilateral trade and economic cooperation

On January 11, 2024, a meeting was held between the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin, and the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. York Shugraf.

First of all, Zavqizoda Z. A. congratulated York Shugraf on the start of diplomatic activities in the Republic of Tajikistan and expressed hope that with his appointment, cooperation between Tajikistan and Germany will reach a qualitatively high level.

It was noted that the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, under the wise and far-sighted policy of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, respected Emomali Rahmon, attaches great importance to the development of trade and economic cooperation with the Federal Republic of Germany.

In this regard, it was emphasized with satisfaction that trade and economic cooperation between the countries is developing from year to year. Thus, in 2023, mutual trade turnover between the countries increased by 60 percent and amounted to 183 million US dollars.

During the meeting, which took place in a friendly atmosphere, the parties discussed priority areas of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, including attracting grant funding for the implementation of the Green Economy Development Strategy in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2023-2037 and projects in the field of digital economy, the creation of new production facilities capacities for the production of electronic equipment in Tajikistan, as well as the implementation of projects to prevent negative consequences from natural disasters.

In addition to this, the parties discussed issues of increasing exports from Tajikistan, education, healthcare and tourism.

At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to further expand mutually beneficial cooperation.
