The Next Session of the Intergovernmental Commission of Tajikistan and Kuwait on Trade, Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation was held in Kuwait
In order to implement the instructions and directives of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon and the Emir of Kuwait, His Excellency Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, on February 5, 2025, the fourth session of the Intergovernmental Commission of Tajikistan and Kuwait on trade and economic cooperation was held in Kuwait under the co-chairmanship of the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin and the Minister of Finance, State Minister for Economic Affairs and Investments of Kuwait, Ms. Noura Sulaimon Al-Fassam.
In his speech, Zavqizoda Z. A. noted that the results of the high-level talks between the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon and the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Sabah, during the state visit on November 3-4, 2024 gave new impetus to bilateral cooperation.
During the session of the Commission, prospects for further cooperation were identified, in connection with which the sides discussed and agreed on a draft roadmap for further expansion of trade, economic, investment and tourism cooperation.
The Tajik side presented specific proposals for attracting direct Kuwaiti investments in priority sectors of the economy, including industry, mining, textile production and construction materials, processing of agricultural products, transport, civil aviation, tourism, education and sports.
The Tajik delegation congratulated the Kuwaiti side on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Kuwait, as well as on Kuwait Independence Day, wishing further success in the development of bilateral cooperation.
The Tajik side proposed to create a Joint Investment Fund of Tajikistan and Kuwait to support large investment projects.
Gratitude was expressed to the Kuwaiti Fund for its support and significant contribution to the development of the economy of Tajikistan, in particular for financing the construction of the “Roghun” HPP project.
It was noted with satisfaction that to date the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development has allocated about $ 200 million to finance projects in the fields of transport, energy, irrigation and infrastructure in Tajikistan.
During the session, the sides welcomed the implementation of direct flights between Dushanbe and Kuwait and discussed further steps to develop cooperation in the field of civil aviation.
The Tajik side proposed to create a joint airline with Kuwaiti investments, as well as to modernize the aviation infrastructure. In addition, the issue of opening direct flights of Kuwait Airways between the capitals of the two countries was considered.
The Kuwaiti side, in response to requests and proposals from Tajikistan, expressed support for the expansion of bilateral economic cooperation, noting that it considers Tajikistan as a reliable partner.
Following the session, the Protocol of the Intergovernmental Commission of Tajikistan and Kuwait on Trade and Economic Cooperation was signed, which enshrined specific measures to further deepen cooperation.
Within the framework of the Commission session, bilateral meetings were held with the Minister of Finance, State Minister for Economic Affairs and Investments Noura Sulaiman Al-Fassam, Minister of Trade and Industry Khalifa Al-Ajil Al-Askar, Director General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development Walid Al-Bahar, Executive Director of Kuwait Investment Authority Saud Al-Sabah and President of the Civil Aviation Authority of Kuwait Sheikh Humood Mubarak Al-Sabah.
During the meetings, issues of attracting investment in priority sectors, developing trade and industry, cooperation in the aviation sector and financing joint investment projects were discussed.
At the end of the Commission session, the sides confirmed their determination to continue expanding mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
Thus, the fourth session of the Intergovernmental Commission of Tajikistan and Kuwait on Trade and Economic Cooperation was successfully completed.
