Meeting of the Minister of Economic Development and Trade with the Assistant Secretary-General of the UN, Regional Director of the UN Development Program Ivana Zivkovic
On May 31, 2025, a meeting was held in Dushanbe between the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin and the Assistant Secretary-General of the UN, Regional Director of the UN Development Program Ms. Ivana Zivkovic.
Zavqizoda Z. A. noted that thanks to the wise policy of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, the cooperation of the Republic of Tajikistan with the United Nations agencies, including the UN Development Program, has acquired strategic importance and reached a qualitatively new level.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the progress in implementing the instructions following the high-level meetings of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, as well as the agreements reached on the country's priority projects, and reviewed the implementation of current projects in the areas of green energy, water management, climate, local community development, digitalization and artificial intelligence.
During the meeting, Zavqizoda Z. A. emphasized the need to further expand cooperation in implementing priority projects and called for attracting additional funding to the sectors of the national economy.
For her part, Ivana Zivkovic said that the UN Development Program is fully prepared to support all initiatives proposed by the Tajik side and will continue to take the necessary measures to strengthen cooperation with Tajikistan.
The UN Development Program has been operating in Tajikistan since 1994 and during this time has financed projects in the country's economic and social spheres in the amount of over $615 million. Currently, 37 UNDP projects worth more than $60 million are being implemented in the country.
