Meeting with Chairman of the State Duma of Russian Federation Viacheslav Volodin

The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Viacheslav Volodin, who is in Tajikistan on an official visit. The meeting took place in the Palace of the Nation.

The discussion covered the current status and prospects of Tajik-Russian bilateral and multilateral relationship, including inter-parliamentary ties.

In this context, the sides noted the importance of meaningful inter-parliamentary relations within the framework of strategic partnership as a contributing factor for the development of a whole range of multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

The two sides also exchanged views on the timely implementation of reached bilateral agreements, the development and expansion of cooperation in economy and trade, attraction of investments in the Tajik economy, strengthening of win-win cooperation in agriculture, industry, science, education, culture, military and technology, and migration.

While touching upon regional and international issues the sides reviewed the political situation in Afghanistan and noted the need to seek new ways to strengthen the fight against the negative phenomena of the modern world.

In this context, they continued a substantive exchange of views on the joint fight against terrorism and extremism, drug trafficking and other transnational organized crime, as well as the danger of imposing radical ideas on societies.

As the discussion focused on various aspects of cooperation in cultural and humanitarian spheres, the two sides paid particular attention to the education sector.

President Emomali Rahmon underlined the importance of successful work of the branches of the leading educational institutions of Russia, such as the Moscow State University, Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys (MISiS), the Moscow Power Engineering Institute, as well as the Russian-Tajik (Slavic) University in Tajikistan and drew the attention of the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation to the necessity of accelerating the process of building five new Russian-language schools in Tajikistan.
