Meeting with Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi
On the sidelines of the 9th Ministerial Conference Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process, the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
The discussion addressed further expansion of bilateral cooperation with an emphasis on political, trade and economic, scientific, educational, cultural and security cooperation.
At the outset of the meeting, while expressed satisfaction over the fruitful achievements in friendly relationship between Tajikistan and Pakistan, President Rahmon noted that Tajikistan is interested in making effective use of opportunities to further strengthen and expand cooperation.
The parties noted that the legal base for our relations now counts a large package of documents that cover practically all areas of cooperation, in particular economic and trade spheres, promotion and mutual protection of investments, information, culture, education, health care, tourism, aviation and security collaborations.
The two sides noted the need to intensify activities of the Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, Joint Business Council and Joint Working Groups on Oil and Gas, Energy and Infrastructure.
During the discussion of security cooperation, it was noted that Tajikistan and Pakistan are natural partners in the fight against global threats - terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and other forms of transnational organized crime.
The implementation of the CASA-1000 project, so far prospects for bilateral cooperation within international organisations and other issues being of mutual interest were also touched upon.
