Meeting of the Minister of Economic Development and Trade with the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Tajikistan

Following the instructions of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin met with the Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Tajikistan Oleg Guchgeldiev on 4 May of this year.

Zavqizoda Z. A. expressed gratitude for the cooperation and participation of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in the preparation and realization of projects implemented in the territory of the Republic, in addition to which he provided detailed information on agricultural policy, food safety, poverty reduction and other strategic objectives of the country, as well as existing opportunities in these areas.

For his part, the Representative of FAO also expressed his views on the organization’s activities, measures taken, technical assistance and possibilities for cooperation between the sides in the current year and future.

It was noted that up to 31 December 2020, the FAO Mission in Tajikistan had implemented 17 active national projects totaling $8.1 million.

In order to support the agricultural sector and providing high quality food, the sides considered the establishment of logistics centres in the regions of the country as a priority area for future cooperation.

At the end of the meeting, the sides expressed readiness to expand fully and make effective use of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
