Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin took part in the High-Level Forum on Creating Opportunities for the Sustainable Development Goals Summit

On July 17, 2023, the official delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan, headed by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin, took part and spoke at the high-level ministerial forum on sustainable development on the topic “Enabling the Summit on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.

Zavqizoda Z. A. noted that thanks to the wise policy of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the respected Emomali Rahmon, Tajikistan over the past 5 years, despite the influence of external factors as a result of economic reforms, government programs and plans for anti-crisis measures in direction of the SDGs has made a number of significant achievements.

In particular, during this period, the average annual economic growth was ensured at the level of 7.3 percent, the cash income of the population increased by 2.1 times, wages by 1.5 times, pensions by 1.3 times.

Access to drinking water, education, healthcare and electricity has also improved. As a result, the poverty rate dropped from 31 percent in 2015 to 22.5 percent in 2022.

At the same time, it was noted that Tajikistan is a leader in global issues of water and climate, and the 5th global initiative of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation the respected Emomali Rahmon to declare 2025 the International Year for the Protection of Glaciers was unanimously adopted by a resolution of the General Assembly and on March 21 declared International Glacier Day.

These initiatives play an important role in the implementation of SDGs 6 and 13.

The serious intention of the Republic of Tajikistan to implement the SDGs was emphasized and a request was made to representatives of Member States and international financial institutions to increase financial and technical assistance to achieve the goals of the 2030 agenda.
