Participation of the Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade in a high-level meeting on preparation for the 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization
On October 23, 2023, a high-level meeting was held in Geneva, Switzerland to prepare for the 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), in which Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade Nuriddinzoda Ahliddin Nuriddin participated and spoke.
The Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, expressed gratitude to the organizers of the event and provided detailed information about the achievements of the Republic of Tajikistan during the period of membership in the organization, the country’s position in connection with the global situation, especially reforms in the WTO and the multilateral trading system.
The meeting mainly discussed issues related to improving the topics of the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference, including the current state of world trade, problems, shortcomings and opportunities for developing cooperation and other areas for strengthening the activities of the WTO, including the multilateral trading system.
Another issue that was discussed was the adoption of the Fisheries Subsidies Agreement. The adoption of this Agreement is expected within the framework of the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference in February 2024 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The WTO Fisheries Subsidies Agreement aims to stabilize the oceans by banning harmful fisheries subsidies, which have become a major factor in the widespread depletion of fish stocks in the world's waters.
