A meeting of the Joint Steering Committee was held to present the UN report on the results of 2023 and to consider the annual work plan of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2023-2026

On April 17, 2024, a meeting of the Joint Steering Committee was held at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade with the participation of heads of ministries and departments, representatives of specialized agencies of the United Nations (UN) - members of the Results Groups of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2023 and consideration of the annual work plan of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2023-2026.

The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin, and the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Tajikistan, Parvati Ramaswamy.

Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin noted that the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, respected Emomali Rahmon, in his next message to the Majlisi Oli, noted the significant achievements of the socio-economic development of the country with a comprehensive analysis and identified priority directions for the development of spheres of the national economy for 2024 and subsequent years.

In particular, in 2023, as a result of measures taken by the Government of the Republic in cooperation with UN agencies and other development partners of the country, average annual GDP growth was ensured at 8.3, and the volume of GDP increased by 1.5 times compared to 2017.

In 2023, the country's economic development was ensured by increasing the real volume of industrial production by 12 percent, agriculture by 9 percent, investment in fixed assets by 22.5 percent, freight transportation by 16.6 percent, trade turnover by 13.4 percent, paid services by 14.1 percent and passenger transportation by 9.8 percent.

In 2023, the supply of domestically produced staple foods in the country was increased by 85 percent, which is compared with 1991, taking into account the increase in the country's population from 5 million to more than 10 million during this period and the doubling of food demand by 2.5 times .

In 2023, more than 7 billion somoni were allocated to organize new industrial production, expand fixed assets and establish the production of new and competitive products through foreign investment and enterprise funds, which is 1.5 times more than in 2022. The share of exports in foreign trade turnover increased from 20 to 30 percent, and the share of imports decreased from 80 to 71 percent.

As a result of the measures taken, the poverty level was reduced to 21.2 percent in 2023, the monetary income of the population increased by 3.3 times compared to 2017, and the number of entrepreneurs increased by almost 6 times.

The heads of UN agency offices, including the Resident Representative of the UN Development Program Lenny Montiel, the Head of the Food and Agriculture Program Oleg Guchgeldiev and others presented the results of joint activities related to the results of the UN annual report for 2023 and the annual review of the Cooperation Framework, and exchanged views and useful suggestions on these issues.

Representatives of development partners assessed the socio-economic reform carried out by the Government of the Republic as effective in achieving strategic goals and priorities and expressed their readiness to increase their assistance and support in ensuring sustainable socio-economic and environmental development.

At the end of the event, the Joint Steering Committee of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the UN made relevant decisions on the agenda of the meeting and expressed readiness to strengthen effective interaction with UN agencies.
