Meeting of the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan with the Head of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Representative Office in Tajikistan.
On February 13, 2025, a meeting took place at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan between the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin, and the Head of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Representative Office in Tajikistan, Ko Sakamoto.
Zavqizoda Z. A. emphasized that under the leadership of the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, esteemed Emomali Rahmon, the country places a high priority on sustainable economic development, expanding international cooperation, and attracting foreign investments.
In this regard, the government views the Asian Development Bank as one of its reliable partners and appreciates its role in implementing national development priorities.
It was noted that to date, the ADB has invested approximately $2.6 billion into Tajikistan's economy, with the volume of active projects in the country currently amounting to $947 million.
Considering the contributions from other investing countries, including the World Bank, Islamic Development Bank, and other international financial institutions, Zavqizoda Z. A. called on the ADB to join in financing the Rogun Hydropower Plant and to approve a sum of $500 million as soon as possible.
He also expressed a desire for the ADB to provide technical and financial support for developing the Medium-Term Development Program of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2026-2030 and the Export Development Program for 2026-2030. The aim of these programs is to ensure sustainable regulation of economic development and strengthen trade relations.
In response to Tajikistan's proposals, the Head of the ADB Representative Office expressed full support for these requests and suggestions.
The ADB representative positively assessed Tajikistan's macroeconomic indicators and noted that the achieved results create favorable conditions for the country's sustainable development.
The parties agreed to continue cooperation and take concrete measures for the practical implementation of the proposed initiatives.
