.

On February 18, 2025, a meeting of the Council for Expanding the Middle Class Population was held at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, chaired by First Deputy Minister Solehzada Ashurboy Abdovohid. The meeting was attended by the head of the World Bank's Permanent Representation, Ozan Sevimli, representatives from relevant ministries and agencies, as well as World Bank experts.

During the meeting, the methodology for determining the level of the middle class population in Tajikistan was approved. This methodology was developed and approved in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, the Statistics Agency, and a group of World Bank experts, taking into account the country's specific characteristics based on the directive of the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, esteemed Emomali Rahmon, which was announced on June 10, 2024, at a meeting of the National Development Council under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.

This methodology was developed for the first time for Tajikistan and establishes an accurate and comprehensive mechanism for assessing the middle class population, providing a reliable basis for developing social and economic policies as well as development strategies.

Additionally, the meeting reviewed the results of an analysis of poverty and economic inequality conducted by the World Bank. This analysis will help to gain a deeper understanding of the population's welfare levels and will contribute to developing effective social and economic policies in the country.

The approval of the methodology for determining the level of the middle class population is an important strategic step in developing a sustainable economy and improving the living standards of the population. This step creates a foundation for strengthening the middle class as a key pillar for economic growth and social stability in Tajikistan.
