Meeting of the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia to Tajikistan with residence in Tashkent.
On February 20, 2025, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin, held a meeting with the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia to Tajikistan, residing in Tashkent, Ilkhom Tuah Ilyas.
At the beginning of the meeting, Zavqizoda Z. A. emphasized the historical role of the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the esteemed Emomali Rahmon, in establishing stability, regional security, and forming progressive policies on the international stage.
Zavqizoda Z. A. also drew attention to the global initiatives of the Leader of the Nation, noting that at Tajikistan's initiative, the UN has declared 2025 as the "International Year for the Protection of Glaciers." In this regard, he invited the Malaysian side to participate at a high level in the International Conference on Glacier Protection, which will be held in late May 2025 in Dushanbe.
Considering Malaysia's advanced experience in industry, opportunities for cooperation were discussed in areas such as hydropower, digitalization, the textile industry, food industry, aluminum, and metals. During the conversation, it was noted that the current level of bilateral trade does not correspond to the real needs of the market and existing opportunities, and additional measures are required to strengthen trade relations.
For his part, the Ambassador of Malaysia highly appreciated the role of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, the esteemed Emomali Rahmon, in strengthening regional stability, promoting economic development, and implementing important international initiatives. He expressed confidence that Malaysia places special importance on strengthening strategic cooperation with Tajikistan.
It was noted that expanding economic and trade ties would be beneficial for both countries, and Malaysia fully supports Tajikistan in implementing sustainable development programs and economic projects. The Ambassador also expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation would reach a new qualitative level in the coming years.
At the end of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their determination to further strengthen economic, trade, and investment cooperation.
