Intergovernmental negotiations between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany on cooperation for development

On November 21-22, 2018, intergovernmental negotiations on development cooperation were held between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany in Dushanbe.

The delegation of the Federal Republic of Germany was led by the Head of the Department “Central Asia, East Asia, Laos and Cambodia” of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Mrs. Catherine Ollers. The delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan was headed by the Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Tojiddin Jurazoda.
Mrs. Catherine Ollers, opening the Intergovernmental negotiations, noted the close cooperation in the economic sphere between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Tajikistan, and noted that the Intergovernmental negotiations will give impetus to increase cooperation between the two countries.
The talks, which were held in a friendly and constructive atmosphere, were held with a view to jointly review the current relationship and prepare the Intergovernmental Negotiations on Cooperation for the biennium from 2018 to 2020, which are planned for 2020 in Berlin, the Federal Republic of Germany. The delegations of both countries discussed issues of current and future cooperation.
The parties noted the main directions of bilateral cooperation in order to achieve a "Sustainable Development of the Economy".
At the same time, further support is provided in the following main areas: health care, the microfinance sector, energy, vocational education and innovative development.
During the talks, issues related to the implementation of projects funded by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany were also discussed. These include rehabilitation of tuberculosis patients, equipping hospitals with necessary equipment, construction of a children's tuberculosis hospital in Machiton, improvement of medical care for pregnant women and newborns, emergency and emergency medical care, construction of new schools in the Khatlon region and the Rasht region and restoration of communication infrastructure.
At the talks, the parties also discussed cooperation in the field of energy, in particular the attraction of grant funds for the Sebzor HPP project. The German side expressed its willingness to provide financial assistance in the implementation of this project.
Following the talks, a protocol was signed.
