Meeting with the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Vladimir Voronkov
The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Vladimir Voronkov.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the high-level conference “International and Regional Cooperation on Countering Terrorism and Its Financing through Illicit Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime.”
During the meeting, current state of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and United Nations Organisation were discussed, among other things.
President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon noted that further strengthening the multilateral relationship with the UN is one of Tajikistan's foreign policy priority areas.
While discussing security issues and factors affecting stability in the region, in particular, terrorism, its financing and organized crime, the parties noted their agreement that the elimination requires joint effort and strengthening both sides' agencies.
Tajikistan condemns international terrorism and extremism and supports the speedy implementation of the Joint Plan of Action for the Implementation of the United Nations Global Counter Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia and UN Secretary General's Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism.
Both Tajikistan and the UN take concrete measures to counter what has been deemed the "plague of the century”, including terrorist groups located near Tajikistan's borders in northern Afghanistan. The talk also included the necessity of joint effort for resolving the difficult political situation in Afghanistan.
