Regional Forum on Sustainable Development at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE)

On March 11, 2021, with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan Abdurahmonzoda Abdurahmon Safarali, a Regional Forum on Sustainable Development was held within the framework of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in a videoconference format.

Abdurahmonzoda A.S. noted that a number of strategic documents, including the National Development Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period up to 2030 and the Medium-Term Development Program of the Republic of Tajikistan were developed on the basis of instructions of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon and the simplification of trade procedures, support for domestic producers and the creation of favorable conditions for the development of domestic and foreign trade are also being carried out.

Abdurahmonzoda A.S. discussed the measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, noting that a Republican Staff under the leadership of Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan was set up and an Action Plan from March 19, 2020 to reduce the potential impact of COVID-19 on the national economy was approved.

It was also noted that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) assessed the anti-crisis measures taken by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as effective in comparison with some countries.

The purpose of the forum at which representatives of the countries of the region discussed specific challenges and actions, was to exchange information on effective recovery policies from the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic to achieve sustainable development goals.

The event was attended by the representatives of the countries of the region, international organizations, civil society and private sector.
