Meeting of the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan with the Regional Director of the Islamic Development Bank

Today the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin met with the Regional Director of Islamic Development Bank in the Central Asia Ibrahim Shoukry, via videoconference.

Zavqizoda Z.A. congratulated Ibrahim Shoukry on his appointment as the new regional director of the Islamic Development Bank in Central Asia and wished him success in his future activities.

It was noted that on the basis of the instructions of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, the cooperation of the Republic of Tajikistan with the Islamic Development Bank is developing in priority economic areas, including energy, transport, agriculture, healthcare and education. The financing of the Bank in the above-mentioned areas amounts to 622.7 million US dollars.

Taking this opportunity, Zavqizoda Z.A. expressed the gratitude of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Islamic Development Bank for its financial and technical support for the social and economic development of Tajikistan and noted that the development of cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank is of particular importance for the Republic of Tajikistan.

With the financing of the Islamic Development Bank, 26 projects worth 248.5 million US$ are currently being implemented in Tajikistan, while another 16 projects worth 190 million US$ are under consideration.

Zavqizoda Z.A. noted that in order to ensure macroeconomic stability, reduce the dependence of the national economy on external factors, as well as increase the competitiveness of products and diversify production, the "Mid-term Development Program of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2021-2025" and the "State Export Development Program for 2021-2025" were adopted and the "Mid-term program of the development of the Digital Economy for 2021-2025" is submitted for consideration to the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

In this regard, it was proposed to develop cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank in order to increase funding for the development of the digital and the green economy, increase production, the pharmaceutical industry, as well as the financial market, create logistics centers and other priority economic sectors. At the same time, the creation of macroeconomic models for the analysis of the socio-economic development of the country was considered.

At the end of the meeting, Zavqizoda Z.A. expressed gratitude for the high level of cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank and expressed the readiness of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan to further expand cooperation in various fields.
