The first meeting of the Working Group on Ensuring food security and access to quality food under the National Development Council under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan was held in Dushanbe

Dushanbe, October 08, 2021 – Today, the first meeting of the Working Group on Ensuring food security and access to quality food under the National Development Council under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan took place, which was held in partnership with the UN in Tajikistan.

The meeting of the Working Group "Ensuring food security and access to quality food" was aimed at discussing the functioning of the Working Group within the National Development Council under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the role of all members of the Working Group, which is represented by government bodies, development partners, the private sector and public organizations.

The participants of the first meeting discussed issues of the agricultural sector, achievements and challenges faced by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan, within the framework of the implementation of the Medium-Term Development Program of the Republic of Tajikistan (MTDP) for 2016-2020, and other sectoral programs, taking into account the SDGs. The increase in agricultural production, an increase in the number of agricultural factories and farms, as well as an increase in the level of access of the population to domestic products was tagged. However, questions were discussed regarding the lack of management of local farms and industries, access to modern technology, and other difficulties faced by the agricultural sector.

In particular, during the meeting, the monitoring and evaluation system of the MTDP for 2021-2025 of the Republic of Tajikistan was presented, its main differences from the monitoring and evaluation system of the MTDP for 2016-2020 were discussed, as well as the integration of the SDGs into the development of the program by sectors.

In order to improve the monitoring and reporting system for the implementation of national, sectoral and local development programs and SDGs, the Secretariat of the National Development Council under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan forms Working Groups consisting of members of sectoral ministries and departments, agencies, committees, public organizations and development partners. 14 Working Groups of the National Development Council will be formed, according to the selected sectoral areas, as well as development areas, covering the priorities of the NDS 2030 and the SDGs.
