Expansion of trade and economic cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the People's Republic of China

On April 20, 2022, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin met with the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Tajikistan Ji Shumin, during which the expansion of bilateral trade cooperation between the two countries was discussed.

Zavqizoda Z.A. noted that thanks to the wise policy of the leaders of the two countries, the Founder of Peace and National Unity - the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan H.E. Emomali Rahmon and Chairman of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping, relations between the two countries have constantly developed and reached a qualitatively new level.

As a result of fulfilling the instructions of the heads of the two countries and their special attention to strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations, the foreign trade turnover between Tajikistan and China in 2021 reached 839.3 million US dollars or increased by 77.5% compared to 2020.

During the meeting, which was held in an open, friendly and constructive atmosphere, the sides exchanged views on the development of cooperation in trade, economic, investment, in particular the creation of joint ventures in the Republic of Tajikistan, including in the free economic zone of Tajikistan.

The sides also discussed issues of expanding cooperation in the fields of digital economy, e-commerce, green economy, agriculture, export growth, primarily the export of environmentally friendly agricultural products from Tajikistan to China, further development of transport and logistics links.

It should be noted that in order to further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation, a Program of trade and economic cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the People's Republic of China (until 2025) was signed on February 5, 2022.

At the end of the meeting, the sides expressed their readiness to expand trade and economic cooperation and implement the identified priorities.
