The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, with advisory support from IFC, is starting to develop national standards for environmental, social and governance practices (ESG) in Tajikistan.

Dushanbe, Tajikistan, August 24, 2023 - The first meeting of the interdepartmental working group on the development of National Standards for Environmental, Social and Governance Practices (ESG) was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. This work is a continuation of IFC's advisory support in developing and strengthening the capacity of the private sector in Tajikistan.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan together with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) as part of a regional program for the development of environmental, social and management practices in Europe and Central Asia, funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

The meeting was attended by members of the working group (representatives of ministries and departments), as well as experts in the field of ESG.

This initiative is aimed at assisting the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan in preparing for the implementation of the Green Economy Development Strategy in Tajikistan for 2023-2037 and the adaptation of existing corporate governance standards with ESG standards, which will enable businesses to build sustainable development practices, increase investment attractiveness, as well as improve communication with stakeholders.
