The Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan agreed to implement large investment projects to expand trade, economic and investment interaction

On November 22, 2023, in the city of Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan, within the framework of the SPECA Summit, a meeting was held between the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin, and the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mikail Chingiz oglu Jabbarov.

Zavqizoda Z. A. noted that thanks to the wise and far-sighted policies of the leaders of the two countries, the Founder of Peace and National Unity - the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency the respected Emomali Rahmon, and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, His Excellency the respected Ilhom Aliyev, bilateral cooperation has constantly developed and reached a high level level of brotherly and reliable partnership.

During the meeting, in order to fulfill the instructions and orders of the Presidents of the two countries, the parties agreed to implement specific investment projects in the field of industrial cooperation, including projects to launch the oil refinery of the Dangara SEZ, create hydroelectric stations (HPPs) in Tajikistan, and increase the production capacity of OJSC Tajik Aluminum Company”, creation of agro-industrial clusters, export of primary aluminum, cryolite and aluminum fluoride from Tajikistan to Azerbaijan, import of alumina from Azerbaijan to Tajikistan for the needs of TALCO and provision of discounts on transportation by rail. For this purpose, a permanent bilateral Working Group was created, which will interact and work out specific steps for the implementation of the above-mentioned projects.

It was noted that after the state visit of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, His Excellency the respected Ilhom Aliyev, to Tajikistan in April 2023, foreign trade turnover between the two countries over the 10 months of this year increased 1.5 times and the volume of this indicator exceeds that of the entire last year.

At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to further expand trade and economic cooperation.
