Conducting a meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group on the development and review of National Environmental, Social Standards and Corporate Governance (ESG) in the Republic of Tajikistan

On July 11, 2024, a meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group on the development of national environmental, social standards and corporate governance (ESG) in the Republic of Tajikistan was held at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan with the participation of representatives of ministries and departments, representative management and experts from the International Finance Corporation.

The project of national environmental, social standards and corporate governance in the Republic of Tajikistan was developed with the support of the Representative Office of the International Finance Corporation in the Republic of Tajikistan with the involvement of international experts together with the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the ministries of economic development and trade, finance, agriculture, transport, health and social protection of the population, labor, migration and employment, energy and water resources, the State Committee for Investments and State Property Management, environmental protection committees , tourism development, the National Bank of Tajikistan, Tajikstandard agencies, social insurance and pensions, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the State Unitary Enterprise “Housing and Communal Services” and the State Unitary Enterprise “Amonatbank”.

The main purpose of the meeting is to present the draft resolution of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan “On national environmental, social standards and corporate governance in the Republic of Tajikistan” in order to timely implement the instructions and instructions of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, respected Emomali Rahmon during the message of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan dated December 28, 2023.

At the meeting, issues of a detailed review of current international ESG standards and the experience of countries in their implementation, the procedure for implementation and compliance with national environmental, social and corporate standards by organizations of great public importance in Tajikistan, the provision of information and methodological assistance by ministries, departments and local executive authorities were discussed public authorities to organizations to which this standard applies, as well as further outreach and training activities in the field of ESG standards. The representative of the international financial corporation and experts, referring to international experience in this direction, noted that in the subsequent period they will assist in conducting trainings for organizations and enterprises operating in Tajikistan, to which the standards apply.

Representatives of relevant ministries and departments considered the draft ESG standard as a whole viable and timely and expressed their readiness to cooperate.
