Consultative meeting on preparations for the high-level events of the United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) in Dushanbe

On September 16, 2024, a consultative meeting on preparations for high-level events of the United Nations Special Program for the Economy of Central Asia (SPECA) was held in Dushanbe under the leadership of Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan Nuriddinzoda Ahliddin Nuriddin.

 

The meeting was attended by Deputy Ministers of Economy and Trade of the SPECA member countries, permanent missions of the participating states to the United Nations (UN) office and other international organizations in Geneva, the UN Economic Commission for Europe, as well as the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia -Pacific region.

According to the agenda, the meeting discussed issues of preparation for high-level SPECA events, including the 19th meeting of the Governing Council and the SPECA Economic Forum in Dushanbe, the Dushanbe Declaration project, country initiatives of the parties and Tajikistan, as well as the creation of a Trust Fund SPECA.

During the virtual meeting, Nuriddinzoda A.N. noted that based on the approval of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, respected Emomali Rahmon dated August 26, 2024, No. 22/10-54 November 26-28, 2024 in the city Dushanbe approved the holding of high-level events of the SPECA Program, including the 19th meeting of the Governing Council and the SPECA Economic Forum.

In this process, Tajikistan attached particular importance to strengthening cooperation in the field of digitalization of industries within the framework of the SPECA program and, during its chairmanship, proposed Green Development as an important issue under consideration.

Nuriddinzoda A.N. stated that strengthening relations within the framework of SPECA is one of the priorities of the foreign economic policy of the Republic of Tajikistan. In addition, Tajikistan has assumed leadership of the SPECA Trade Working Group, and today's meeting will discuss issues related to strengthening cooperation among SPECA member countries, the creation of the SPECA Trust Fund and the further implementation of sustainable trade goals in the region.

To this end, intergovernmental cooperation within the framework of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific will also be widely strengthened.

At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation and implement the identified issues.
