Meeting of the Council for expanding the Middle Class in the Republic of Tajikistan

  

On September 27, 2024, under the leadership of the First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Solehzoda Ashurboy Abduvohid, with the participation of Rahimjan Asangaziyev, Acting Country Director of the World Bank in Tajikistan, members of the Council and development partners, a regular meeting of the Council for Expanding the Middle Class in the Republic of Tajikistan was held.

 

At the beginning of the meeting, Solehzoda A. A. noted that the activities of the Council are important for achieving the highest strategic goal - improving the standard of living of the population, which will be achieved by reducing poverty and expanding the middle class.

The meeting presented the experience of the Republic of Tajikistan in reducing poverty, a new methodology for assessing poverty using household budget studies and world experience in assessing the middle class of the population.

It was decided to approve a new methodology for assessing poverty using a household budget study, developed in agreement with the members of the Council. At the same time, the Council Secretariat was instructed, in cooperation with the Agency on Statistics, a group of World Bank experts and representatives of relevant ministries and departments, to develop a draft methodology for assessing the middle class of the population of Tajikistan and submit it for approval to the Council meeting before the end of 2024.
