Tajikistan-Egypt Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation
On December 4, 2024, the third meeting of the Tajikistan-Egypt Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation was held in Dushanbe with the participation of official delegations from both countries. The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, Zavqi Zavqizoda, and the Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat.
As part of the Commission's meeting, a bilateral meeting of the co-chairs of the Tajikistan-Egypt Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation and the Tajikistan-Egypt Business Forum were also held.
Zavqi Zavqizoda noted that, thanks to the wise policies of the leaders of both countries— the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, and the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, His Excellency Abdel Fattah El-Sisi—bilateral relations between the two nations have been steadily developing and have reached a high level.
It was highlighted that this Commission meeting aimed to implement the instructions given during the meeting of the leaders of both countries on March 10, 2022, and to strengthen bilateral relations while taking mutual interests into account.
During the Intergovernmental Commission meeting, the parties discussed the development of trade and economic, investment, industrial, agricultural, tourism, educational, and healthcare cooperation. The parties agreed to work on establishing joint ventures for the production of textiles, pharmaceuticals, footwear, and construction materials, including tiles, ceramics, and granite, with the attraction of direct investments, as well as simplifying bilateral trade procedures.
These initiatives are expected to contribute to increased industrial production, attract investments, create new jobs, enhance export potential, and strengthen industrial cooperation in both countries.
As part of the Commission’s meeting, the delegations of Tajikistan and Egypt signed three important documents:
A Memorandum of Understanding on Trade and Economic Cooperation between the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Investment and Trade of the Arab Republic of Egypt;
An Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt on Cooperation and Mutual Assistance in Customs Affairs;
The Protocol of the Third Meeting of the Tajikistan-Egypt Intergovernmental Commission.
The events were held in a friendly atmosphere, and as a result, the parties expressed their readiness to further develop cooperation and implement joint projects in industrial, trade, investment, scientific, and technical fields.
It should be noted that the official delegation of the Arab Republic of Egypt, led by the Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, and including deputy ministers, heads of departments from relevant ministries and agencies, as well as Egyptian entrepreneurs and investors, has been in the Republic of Tajikistan since December 3, 2024.
Additionally, the official Egyptian delegation visited the National Museum of Tajikistan, where they highly praised the rich history and ancient culture of the Tajik people.
