Meeting of the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan with the Director of IFAD in Tajikistan

  

On April 8, 2025, a meeting took place at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan between the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin, and Roberto Longo, the Country Director of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Tajikistan.

 

During the meeting, the parties summarized the volume of bilateral cooperation over the past 15 years. To date, the total volume of direct investments from IFAD in the agricultural development sector of the Republic of Tajikistan has reached over 115 million USD, benefiting more than 300,000 farming households from project implementation. Currently, the projects being implemented by IFAD in Tajikistan amount to 57.6 million USD.

The Minister of Economic Development and Trade emphasized that the new COSOP program should fully align with the national development strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period until 2030. In particular, he highlighted the importance of supporting infrastructure development in rural areas, reducing poverty levels, protecting the environment, and enhancing the role of women and youth in the development process of rural areas.

Roberto Longo expressed appreciation to the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan for effective cooperation and the key role of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade in coordinating IFAD projects, and he expressed interest in expanding bilateral cooperation.

The parties expressed their readiness to develop a quality, comprehensive, and realistic document and hoped for continued collaboration towards sustainable development in rural areas of Tajikistan.
