A meeting of the Joint Steering Committee was held to present the UN report on the results of 2024 and to review the annual UN Framework Program for Cooperation in Sustainable Development for 2023-2026.
On April 24, 2025, a meeting of the Joint Steering Committee was held at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, chaired by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin, and the UN Resident Coordinator in Tajikistan, Parvati Ramaswamy. The meeting was attended by heads of ministries and agencies, representatives of UN agencies that are members of the Result Groups of the UN Framework Program for Sustainable Development for 2023-2026. The purpose of the meeting was to present the UN report on the results of 2024 and to review the annual plan of the UN Framework Program for Sustainable Development for 2025.
Zavqizoda Z. A. noted that under the wise policy of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, esteemed Emomali Rahmon, and as a result of measures taken in cooperation with UN agencies and other development partners, economic stability has been ensured, and the Republic of Tajikistan has achieved significant economic and social successes and unique accomplishments.
In particular, despite the influence of external factors, as a result of successful implementation of state strategies and programs, notably the National Development Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period until 2030, over the last 10 years since gaining state independence, the gross domestic product (GDP) increased from 45.6 billion somoni in 2014 to 153.4 billion somoni in 2024, or by 3.4 times. The GDP per capita rose from 5.5 thousand somoni in 2014 to 14.8 thousand somoni in 2024, or by 2.7 times, and monetary income increased from 24.2 billion somoni in 2014 to 147 billion somoni in 2024, or by 6.1 times. During the period of independence, the poverty rate decreased from 83% to 20.4%. More than 2,550 km of roads were built and commissioned, over 2,000 megawatts of new energy capacities were established, and 3,670 new educational institutions and 3,076 new medical facilities were put into operation.
The heads of UN agency representations, including the head of the UN Impact Fund office in Tajikistan, Nargis Rahimova; the acting permanent representative of the UN Development Program, Lazima Onta Bhata; the head of the Food and Agriculture Organization representation in Tajikistan, Agasi Arutyunyan; the head of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, Maksudjon Duliyev; and the head of the UN Resident Coordinator's office, Kristine Tovmasyan, presented the results of their joint activities regarding the UN annual report for 2024 and discussed the annual plan for the Framework Program for Cooperation for 2025, during which there was an exchange of opinions and suggestions.
Development partners assessed the economic and social reforms carried out by the Government of the Republic as effective in achieving strategic goals and priorities and expressed their readiness to increase their assistance and support in ensuring sustainable economic, social, and environmental development.
At the conclusion of the event, the Joint Steering Committee of the Government of the Republic and the UN adopted relevant decisions on agenda items and expressed their readiness to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with UN agencies and other development partners.
