The meeting was co-chaired by Nuriddinzoda Ahliddin Nuriddin, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, and Masaki Ishikawa, Special Representative for Central Asia and Deputy Director-General of the European Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

In his opening remarks, Nuriddinzoda A. N. emphasized that, thanks to the far-sighted policy of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation H.E. Emomali Rahmon, economic and trade relations between Tajikistan and Japan have gained positive momentum and reached a qualitatively new level.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation and expressed strong interest in launching joint projects in such sectors as industry, agriculture, energy, logistics, digital economy, and human capital development.

Special emphasis was placed on increasing bilateral trade turnover and exploring the establishment of direct air routes between Dushanbe and Japanese cities as a vital step toward enhancing practical economic cooperation.

With regard to digital economy, the Tajik side presented its national goal of full economic digitalization by 2030 and underlined the importance of supporting projects related to digital infrastructure, e-government services, and digital entrepreneurship.

On labor migration issues, both sides acknowledged the need to develop a regulated official migration mechanism. Tajikistan expressed its readiness to cooperate in pre-departure training systems, information platform development, and the creation of bilateral coordination centers.

In response, the Japanese side reaffirmed Tajikistan’s status as a trusted partner and expressed interest in considering the proposals submitted, including the establishment of a training center for the Japanese labor market, support for joint ventures, and expanding Japanese language learning networks across Tajikistan.

It was acknowledged with satisfaction that ongoing JICA projects, the JDS scholarship program, and volunteer initiatives serve as effective tools in strengthening scientific cooperation and human resource development.

As a result of the meeting, a Protocol of the Intergovernmental Commission was signed, outlining specific measures to expand cooperation in priority areas. It was proposed to hold the next session of the Commission in 2026 in Dushanbe.
