Meeting of the Minister of Economic Development and Trade with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan
On August 10, 2021, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Imran Haidar in an atmosphere of friendship and brotherhood, during which the expansion and further development of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries were considered.
Zavqizoda Z. A. noted that relations between Tajikistan and Pakistan have long and deep roots, and this strategic cooperation, thanks to the wise and far - sighted policy of the leaders of the two countries, the Founder of Peace and National Unity- Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon and the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan H.E. Mr. Imran Khan, has reached a qualitatively new level. In particular, the official visit of the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, during which 12 new documents on cooperation were signed, is a confirmation of the abovementioned words.
It was noted that in six months of 2021, there is a gradual recovery of trade turnover between our countries. During this period, this indicator amounted to 18.9 million US dollars, which increased by 6.3% compared to the same period in 2020. The sides also expressed confidence that this indicator does not reflect the existing potential between our countries and there are still many opportunities to use this potential.
Zavqizoda Z. A. proposed several priority areas for further mutually beneficial cooperation, especially the creation of joint enterprises for the manufacture of prepared products with added value in the textile and pharmaceutical sectors, the use of transit and tourism opportunities, including in the free economic zones of Tajikistan and the development of bilateral business, which were well approved by the Pakistani side.
At the end of the meeting, the sides expressed their readiness for mutually beneficial cooperation and the implementation of these tasks.
