At the meeting of the Minister of Economic Development and Trade with the President of the Islamic Development Bank Group, the allocation of more than 450 million dollars to priority sectors of the country's economy was discussed

On May 12, 2023, the official delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan, headed by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin, met with the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Group, Dr. Muhammad Suleiman al-Jasser in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Zavqizoda Z. A. noted that thanks to the wise and far-sighted policy of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the respected Emomali Rahmon, cooperation with the IDB Group has reached a high level, and the Republic of Tajikistan considers the IDB as a reliable development partner.

 

At the meeting, the parties discussed the implementation of a number of important projects in the fields of energy, transport, infrastructure development, education, healthcare, irrigation and other priority socio-economic areas of Tajikistan.

 

In this regard, Zavqizoda Z. A. presenting wide investment opportunities and expressing gratitude, asked the President of the IDB Group to focus on priority areas

 

national economy, including the development of green energy, especially the construction projects of the Rogun hydroelectric power station, the Guliston-Farkhor - Pyanj-Dusti road, irrigation of agricultural land, educational institutions, the creation of textile enterprises, logistics centers, the production of halal products, the development of trade and tourism, traditional and Islamic banking, private sector capacity building and climate change mitigation.

 

In turn, the President of the IDB Group expressed his readiness to increase funding for projects in these areas, as well as to strengthen further cooperation.

 

It was noted that this year the IsDB Group has allocated $150 million for the construction of the Rogun HPP and is working with the Arab Coordinating Group and relevant development funds to further increase funding for this project.

 

The IDB said that in order to implement a number of priority projects, as well as to develop a new cooperation strategy, several official delegations of the Bank will visit the Republic of Tajikistan in May-June.

 

It should be noted that so far the IDB Group has implemented investment projects in various sectors of the economy of the Republic of Tajikistan in the amount of 641 million dollars.

 

As part of recent negotiations, the IDB Group planned to allocate more than $450 million for the implementation of the country's priority projects.

In conclusion, the parties expressed their readiness to expand cooperation.
